Meet dr. matthew johnson
Dr. Matthew Johnson is a board-certified Family Medicine Physician. He was born and raised in Greeneville, Tennessee and attended the University of Tennessee for his degree in Microbiology. He then went on to the Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine in Blacksburg, Virginia for medical school and then the University of South Carolina for residency. He served as chief resident during his final year of residency.
Following residency, Dr. Johnson worked in rural underserved areas in both South Carolina and Pennsylvania while serving in the National Health Service Corps.
Following his service, he then became medical director for the St. Luke’s Rural Health Centers in Tamaqua, Pennsylvania while also serving as faculty attending physician with the St. Luke’s Miners Rural Family Medicine Residency Program. Dr. Johnson and his family then relocated to Charlottesville to start Free Range Direct Primary Care.
In his free time, Dr. Johnson enjoys spending time outdoors with his wife, Danielle, and their two daughters. He enjoys traveling, good food and fueling his coffee addiction.

What does the monthly membership include?
The monthly membership includes unrestricted, transparent, open access to Dr. Johnson. He prides himself as being a “gadget guy” and is just a call, text, email, or same day office visit away. There is no one between you and your doctor. He is the one that answers the phone, not an answering service. It also includes some minor office procedures. Cool right?
What ages does Dr. Johnson see?
Everyone! Dr. Johnson is board-certified in family medicine. He is very comfortable seeing all ages from newborns to the elderly.
What about bloodwork, medications and imaging?
One of the beauties of DPC is full price transparency. We have personally worked with local labs and imaging centers to ensure you the lowest cash price possible. Soon our in-house dispensary will stock medications in our office and give them to you at wholesale cost. We also provide free samples if available. You wouldn't have a mechanic take care of your car without knowing the price beforehand, right? You'll know the price before you decide on anything with Free Range DPC. The way it should be.
What if I am healthy and rarely go to the doctor?
Great, nice work! We aim to keep you healthy and prevent illness. Sometimes, however, you get injured and need stitches, you get sick and need an antibiotic, or have a quick question to run by a doctor. An urgent care visit for those stitches or antibiotic will cost you about what our annual membership costs. And if you have a question for a doctor? Good luck getting an answer any time soon the normal way. As a member, just call/text/email Dr. Johnson. Yes, it's that easy and convenient.
What if I decide to cancel my membership?
Things change, we get it. No problem at all. We just ask you give us 30 days notice so we can tie up any loose ends and give you a chance to find another doctor. If you pay quarterly or annually, you will be immediately refunded the remaining balance, no hard feelings whatsoever.
